What is a steward?

The steward is the go-to union representative on the job site. He or she has a number of responsibilities. Typically each workplace has one steward and one alternative steward designated by our bylaws. The Union steward helps with on-site contract enforcement, assists in grievance procedures, and is the lynchpin position in keeping members informed and motivated about Teamsters local 2785.  If you want to take a leadership role in how your Union helps workers at your workplace, get involved and become a Union Steward

How do I become a Steward?

When a Steward position becomes available, we will post a signup sheet at the workplace.  If two or more members apply to become a steward, an election is held using secret ballot.  The Union Steward is elected by the members co-workers.

If you have questions about stewards or want to talk to someone about becoming a steward in your workplace, please contact memberservices@teamsters2785.org or call us at 415-467-0450.
